Planning a wedding can be a tremendous task. The total numbers of decisions and details that go into planning and preparing for the big day can be exhausting. Picking the date, venues for the wedding and the reception, choosing the food, the DJ and special music, the attendants, the dresses and tuxes, flowers … and the list goes on and on. One thing that could easily be overlooked is the wedding favors.
Do the bride and groom have to purchase wedding favors?
This one is more of an option than many of the other decisions that must be made.
What you should certainly not do is purchase favors that you simply cannot afford. And if you have a very small budget for favors, maybe it’s best not to give a cheap knickknack that no one wants. Save your money and spend it on some other aspect of the day. No one will think worse of you for not providing wedding favors; they are not required. And remember, your guests are joining your wedding to celebrate your special day with you, not to bring home a small favor.
However, many couples today do give wedding favors to thank their guests for coming to the wedding and making all the sacrifices that got them there, such as purchasing a new dress and/or shoes, traveling and staying at a hotel for an out-of-town wedding, hiring a babysitter and selecting a gift or writing a check for the couple.
